Sightings report image

Date: 09/17/2014

Number: 2500

Went to visit Point Pelee national Park on 9/17/14. Spotted five roosts. Conservatively the largest roost had about 1800-2000 monarchs the next one noticeably smaller, about 1500 the smaller three roosts approximately 500 each, a handful of smaller roosts along the East beach right at the tip. with no more than 15 butterflies in them and a speckling of independent butterflies all over the trees between the first roost and the tip. Watched them for two hours. The monarchs started in the tops of the trees, as the wind picked up and the sun set they moved down the trees a little bit and into the interior of the tip area for shelter.
