Signs of Fall

Date: 09/18/2014

Number: 1

We observe that it is a bit rainy and windy. There have been some foggy days lately. We went on a nature walk and discovered many mushrooms and a variety of fungi. We saw many branches of trees had been blown down and old man's beard and lichen and moss were on the ground because of this. There are rotting berries and skunk cabbage appears to be decomposing. We notice that leaves are changing colors from green to yellow and red, falling off, and also some leaves have brown spots and holes. Hunting season has begun. Fireweed has gone to seed. Salmon are spawning. Birds are starting to migrate. People are beginning to gather materials to prepare for winter, and we think that animals might be doing something similar to prepare for hibernation. Some bears are even breaking into cars to gather food to beef up for winter.
