Quiet and chilly in the habitat tonight--7:20 PM, 50.8 degrees, winds from the East approx 9 MPH. Many of our tiny guests have departed, as when I filled and cleaned the feeders this evening, I saw 5 girls. Temperatures are expected to be 39 degrees in the morning. In 2013 our last sighting was the 26th of September and I kept feeders filled and cleaned for an additional two weeks after the last sighting, in case we had any "tardy birds" migrating by :) I will do the same thing this year. We still have 8 foot "tomato red" flags flying on the hills as beacons for hummers who may be migrating by. Numerous late summer early fall nectar plants in bloom. There is good cover and shelter in the forest to help keep our guests warm during a chilly night.
