Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/20/2014

Number: 1

Good Morning from Virginia's Eastern Shore! I have a collection of 41 caterpillars on my side porch in early stages...from tiny 1st instar to 3rd instar. I have been observing females laying eggs on what's left of my milkweed...mostly on common and butterfly weed, and some swamp milkweed. I had cut common and butterfly weed back all the way to the ground some weeks ago, but it all came back nice and fresh...and the females found it! There are some eggs mixed in here also, (some of them have hatched) but not sure of the count. Cool temps have put everything in slow motion, so hope these little ones get through this and hope I have enough milkweed to feed them! I'll be hunting other sources nearby if needed! The ones who make it will be on their way as soon as they finish their "work project"! Yay!
