Monarchs are alive and well in Hesston, KS. and the migration is here! I am a tagger for Monarch Watch, and have been since it's origination in 1992. Based on last year's migration and having to return most all of my tags because they were unused, I unfortunately ordered too conservatively on tags for this year. I tagged 42 yesterday, which, with the 8 from the day before, used up the 50 tags I ordered for the year. This morning (7-9am; September 20) I saw 75-100 roosting monarchs in my usual tagging places, but had no tags to use. I re-ordered a small amount of tags just in case monarchs will still be passing through here, but if it takes the 3 weeks customer service said it might, that will likely be too late, even for some stragglers.
Yes, the monarchs would have settled into those areas the night before I saw them (9/19).
