I counted at least a dozen butterflies in the clover field by the house. The wind is 20 mph from the south and the monarchs were nectaring primarily where protected from the wind by tree line. Their flight was beautiful to watch; they could hang effortlessly in the air when facing the south wind. When coming down to land they headed into the wind like miniature sailboats. I was surprised to see them, primarily because the clover is mostly past bloom.
