I counted 18 monarchs in our field today. They've been stacking up after a few days of south winds. I've been seeing them in the evening, too, milling around as if about to roost but never settling down.
I have been wondering why so many monarchs are here since most of the red clover is past bloom. It wasn't until evening that I discovered a neighboring 10-acre field (that's hidden from view) is filled with red clover. See peak migration report of 100 monarchs there.
