Been having computer issues so couldn't report this until today (9/25). I saw two monarchs gliding south at about 20 to 30 ft altitude. Day was mostly sunny high was around 75. Two in one day is the most I have seen all year including anywhere I have traveled in the MD/VA/DC area (total for the year now 7 monarchs--all I have observed have been at home--none when I was out driving, walking, or hiking elsewhere in the region which is the first year I have had no sightings away from home). I have not seen any since the 22nd. Very discouraging...hoping increased numbers in the midwest will translate to a better east coast population next year.
