Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/24/2014

Number: 3

Over the weekend we had three birds at the feeders battling it out. They totally disregard the fact that there are six feeders and quite enough for everyone. One of them has a beak which looked like she had dipped it half way in to a bottle of India Ink. We called her Black Beak. The other was a chubby adolescent male. We call all males little Rufus. We thought he was a female but then we looked at him with binoculars and saw his blaze just starting to come out. A couple of weeks ago we had a female we called long wing. Yesterday we still had two birds. Black Beak only stayed for a day or two. Clearly a traveler.
Today, after the rain, we just had one little fellow out there, the chubby adolescent. I think he may have packed his bag already and was just having one for the road.
