I don't always know males from females, but there are consistently 10 to 12 hummingbirds all day, till almost dark. Last week there were considerably many more birds. We joked that it felt like the sparrows at Capistrano! The hostility between so many of the birds, and the impact of the blows upon each other, really upsets me! Do they harm or hurt each other? We do so dread watching their numbers decrease, because we know it only means they will soon be gone till next spring, and we will miss them terribly!!
