Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/28/2014

Number: 59

I went out to fill my bird feeder at 5:45p.m. CDT, when I noticed a Monarch feeding at a butterfly bush. Then I looked up and saw several others flying above tree top level. I am so glad that I pulled up a chair to watch and count as a very nice flight of Monarchs came into the area as the sun was setting. Except for about 6 Monarchs, all were flying well above 50 feet. The air was humid, still, with temperatures in the upper 70's. Most did not have to flap their wings, but sailed quietly against a deep blue sky and gray and white clouds tinged with hues of peach and pink from the sunset. It was a remarkable sight!
