Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/24/2014

Number: 50

Nancy Keeney reports for her brother and sister in law:

On Sept 24 Ted was walking around his field where they have a track set up with a nearby section they leave uncut and he saw what he said was as many as 50 Monarchs there. They were on Iron Weed blossoms. He took several photos and one of the photos was of a male. He said they were gone the next day. Also, earlier in the month Sonja discovered early one morning over 20 Monarch larva on her Butterfly Weed plant but in the heat of the day when she checked they were gone.

They didn't know about Journey North so I asked their permission to report their sightings. They also have 100 or more hummers all summer long. She fills a gallon feeder and 7 or 8 smaller feeders DAILY!! I've never seen so many hummers in one place. Almost makes me dizzy to watch them when I go there.
