Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/30/2014

Number: 1000

Large treed suburban yard has 500-1000 Monarchs roosting, observed since yesterday by owner. I have no idea how to count actual numbers. Butterflies are roosting in clusters of 20 or more in Sycamore, Maple, Pine, and Lilac shrubs.

The owner discovered them on 9/29/14. I'm not sure what time. I saw them on 9/30/2014 about 3:30pm for close to 2 hours. I was told they had a similar roost there two or three years ago.

October 7:
The Monarchs are no longer there. There were a few small clusters on the morning of Friday, October 3rd, maybe 100 total. The owner posted that they were all gone by that evening (10/3).
