The morning of 09/25/14 my usual hummingbird wars had stopped. I have 6 feeders spread around my t shaped house and yard. Live on wooded hillside. The odd thing this year, only had 1 male and found him dead in August, may have hit window. One baby male. That group is gone. In past ALWAYS HAD NEW IMMATURE STAY BEING TO FATTEN UP. Not this year. Also had less than 20.
On 09/30/14 I had a skinny stragglers slurping continuosly at the kitchen window feeder. I immediately changed all feeders fluid. By 09/31/14 new stragglers arrived and the warring was on. The wrather was in 80s. Have about 5 but not a male ruby throat in bunch! Usually have at least 3 in past 32 years.
Today is rain and chilly. At least 4 are still here. Will miss my hummers, am retired and observe them criss crossing on my patio. My monarda are re blooming as well as other flowers. Three feeders are up all year, tit mouse and others have learned to tip feeders and drink in winter, bees still eating as well.
