Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 10/04/2014

Number: 100

The peak Monarch migration has hit Dallas big-time. Monarchs were in my butterfly garden in droves - easily over 100 individuals all nectaring on Frostweed and Gregg's mistflower. The migrators show little interest in eachother - only in nectaring (unlike in non-migration times when the males chase eachother around all day looking for a mate). Frostweed is their preferred plant to nectar on. They drape all over it as does every pollinating insect there is - bee's of all kinds from large to small, beetles of all kinds and colors, wasps of all kinds, fly's, and even mosquito's (plus bugs I have no idea what to call them)! Here is a picture of the action.
