Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 10/02/2014

Number: 10

Found 11 - 3rd and 4th instar caterpillars on young (recently mowed) milkweed. Picked them up to raise them the rest of the way inside - temps at night are getting cold. They are doing well. Today is the 5th of October - 1 is in a chrysalis, 2 in J's, and 8 are still feeding on milkweed. Good year for Monarchs in this area. Altogether my students and I have found, and raised about 80 with about a 90% success rate. Have 3 Monarch butterflies which I will release as soon as it warms up.
