Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 10/05/2014

Number: 150

The Monarchs are off their roosts and again nectaring heavily on Frostweed this morning. As I was taking this shot, I noticed that a tagged Monarch had joined the group! You'll clearly see him (or her?) in the middle left of the shot. I was able to zoom in the picture and get the tag # #THE 669. I have e-mailed Monarch Watch as I am dying to know where and when it was tagged. When I get some info on I'll let you know. Hopefully, he'll make it to Mexico intact and help spawn (to use a fish term) the next generation. Go Monarchs!

October 8 update
Incidentally, I saw the tagged butterfly 3 days in a row in my garden. So it migrated in from somewhere, and stuck around for at least that long. For all I know, it could still be out there as there are approximately 150-200 Monarchs in my yard right now. So finding it is hit or miss.
