Last night was the first time this season the temps dropped into the low 40's, coupled with a strong west wind made the migration journey more difficult today. The daytime temps rose into the mid 50's. I spotted 84 monarchs today. Due to the strong winds the monarchs were flying lower to conserve their energy and feeding on golden rod. As a result of the high winds, the monarchs roosted lower in the trees and kept shivering to raise their body temps.
