Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/06/2014

Number: 50

We saw monarch butterflies swarming around our house and landing in trees about 1:45pm. We've never seen that many at one time and couldn't count them because they kept flying and sitting in so many trees in the yard.

I saw them before dark also but it didn't look like as many. There could have been 50. We're surrounded by trees so it's hard to tell. I'm attaching a photo that I was able to capture.

I then got a phone call from my friend in Duncanville TX when I sent her an email about my sighting and she said that they had a fire going in their backyard on Saturday, Oct. 4th, in the dark, and they had a lot of monarchs flying around them AND over the fire and even landing on her husband and ground.

I just stopped writing this and went out to see if they're still there (10/07) and they are but not as many.
