Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/26/2014

Number: 500

We saw several Monarchs for a few days. On the morning of Sep 27 we saw hundreds and i mean hundreds of roosting Monarchs. It was very windy and they were hanging out on the north side of the trees to keep out of the south wind. We have a large butterfly garden with a tree line (about 300' long) behind it. We live in the country and have let several acres return to the prairie. We have never seen so many. We walked thru clouds of butterflies.

They started leaving on Sept 29. After that we only saw 2 or 3 at a time, the last sighting was Fri Oct 12 and we saw 2. I have many photos.

Editor's note: We've re-dated this report from 9/27 to 9/26, the night the roost formed.
