This afternoon, I found a fresh-looking male monarch in a bucket which had about 1" of water from recent rain. I put him on buddleia in direct sun where he immediately began nectaring. Within about 20 minutes he was flying around and checking out the flowers I have remaining. Since it was fairly late (4:30 PM) there wasn't much and he only chose flowers in the sun. Seemed to alternate between boneset and buddleia. Unfortunately I do not have any more tags. I intended to bring him in for the night since we have our first frost advisory tonight. When I went to net him, he was high in an oak tree. This is the latest I have ever had a monarch at my house.
