This is the third day of this week that I have tagged and seen Monarch Butterflies in this location. At around 7:00pm, the Monarchs came in with the evening breeze to roost along the trees by Lake Wichita (now almost dry from the drought).
We have a group here in Wichita Falls that look for the Monarchs every year at this location by Lake Wichita. On Saturday, October 4, we noticed the Monarchs coming into the area and I posted a roost report. We went back out on October 5 - my friend Jane posted more sightings. I went back on Monday, October 6 - again more Monarchs coming into the trees. On Wednesday, October 8, we saw even more coming in. On Wednesday, October 8, I was able to net about 10 per "swoop" as they came into the trees to roost. Even though Lake Wichita is almost dried up, we are still getting good groups of Monarchs coming to rest in this area.
Hope this helps!
