Sightings report image

Date: 10/05/2014

Number: 51

I was working in Founders Park in immediately south of downtown Dallas where we have a way station. Roughly half of the sightings were of butterflies that were flying overhead and didn't stop for nectar or to lay eggs. The others were feeding primarily on the candlestick plants, Santa Barbara Salvia and the Pavonia. A smaller number were on the lantana and milkweed. The weather was sunny and about 85 F, with a breeze of about 10mph.

I am a retired science teacher and spearheading the development of butterfly gardens in Oak Cliff, probably the most green part of Dallas. I will be encouraging members of our garden club to begin reporting sightings to this sight.
