Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/09/2014

Number: 100

The monarchs first roosted the evening of October 7th (reported). They roosted the night of the 9th (100 butterflies) and through the daytime on Friday the 10th, but were mainly gone by yesterday the 11th. In fact there were only 2! And they are still there. We had a rainstorm Friday night (10/10) and it is now (10/12) much cooler, so it made sense that they would move on.

This was so amazing. Do you know if Monarchs roost in the same places year after year? We had a few last year, and I didn't know if they somehow marked us as a safe, good place to rest on their journey.
