The Rio Brazos Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists held a Monarch education and tagging event at Acton (,Texas) Nature Center continued. Day 2 was open to the public.

A cold front came through overnight. Rain arrived about 2200, but wind shift to north was not until about 0300. This was less than ideal for Monarchs since the temperature also dropped significantly. At sunrise between 50 and 55F. The first instructors to arrive were able to capture several Monarchs from Mesquite trees by grasping their wings as they perched. (These were tagged and released for attendees to watch later in the day.) By noon, temperature had only reached only 57F. Wind was more west than north, but not too strong. Heavy overcast most of the time. A few more Monarchs were netted during the morning mostly from liatris.

After tagging instructors often place Monarchs on someone clothing to let it recover them fly off. This one waited several minutes to leave.
