Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/13/2014

Number: 300

We have Monarchs all over our back yard. I would guess between 100-200 have taken refuge in our trees. Oh it was awesome to watch! We're located in Mexia, Texas. We're not sure when they arrived. We seldom go in the backyard. But we had a terrible storm this weekend (Oct. 11/12) and it blew down trees.  When we were trying to get all the trees up, we saw them.  Needless to say, we left everything alone and want them to stay as long as they like. So peaceful. Right now, they cover about half the area of our back yard fence, and we were out there about 5:15pm.  We will keep an eye on them and let you know how they do.  They were coming in as fast as we could take pictures.

Editor's Note: This roost was reported at 7 pm on October 13. We are leaving the date as reported but, as noted above, we don't know when the roost formed for the first time. We have Monarchs all over our back yard. I would guess between 100-200 have taken refuge in our trees. Oh it was awesome to watch! We're located in Mexia, Texas.
