Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/09/2014

Number: 3000

Observed thousands of Monarchs Thursday (10/09) and Friday waiting for the cold front to push through. Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger, Texas, was covered with butterflies as were trees on our family farm that borders the Colorado River. High southerly winds kept them roosting until the cold front that pushed through last night (10/12). They were very active and looked healthy with big, bright wings. I was up close and personnel with many and didn't see any tattered wings but could see their little feet dangling and hear them flutter by! The most I've seen in years!
