At the cottage in Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula for the Thanksgiving weekend, saw 2 monarchs within a half hour of each other flying low to the ground against a stiffening south wind. I'd guess they made landfall on the Peninsula the previous day with the assistance of a more northerly breeze. Couldn't make out gender but both were bright and fresh looking. We've seen monarchs this late before, but it's always a surprise. With rain forecast here all week, we hope they have at least a chance of making it to Mexico.
