Weather overcast, winds light but sometimes up to 8 - 12 mph from the SE, occasional light rain. Same location as 10/2/2014. We split up and surveyed a larger field, see photo of field with a net of monarchs waiting to be tagged (as compared to 10/2/2014 when we stayed closer together on a narrow strip of vegetation). Monarchs seemed to "appear" on plants early in the morning(not seen flying in), causing us to wonder if they roosted low in field vegetation and climbed up to flowers. By noon, a brief stop on the Mississippi River, individual monarchs passing by, tree top level, following river south.
