Bald Eagle

Date: 10/13/2014

Number: 1

My wife and I were hiking in the Middlesex Fells Reservation. We were circling the North Reservoir and as we were on the Dike Road Trail headed north at about 4:20PM we spotted a lone bald eagle on the very top of a dead tree about 100 yards from us. We stayed long enough to watch it take flight about 20 minutes later. It flew west across the reservoir and disappeared in the trees on the opposite shore. I am in my 50's, a lifelong Massachusetts native, an avid hiker and nature lover, and I have never witnessed a bald eagle in New England before.
