Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/13/2014

Number: 50

Our night time temp last night (10/13) dropped into the lower 40's so the Monarchs that roosted on the ranch overnight were moving slow this morning (10/14). Once the sun hit the trees and the temperature got above 50, the few that roosted started to move. It was hard to get a true count because they would fly from their original roosting spot to either another tree or move higher up into more direct sunlight. However, from 8:00 am to 9:30 am, I counted 50 that took flight, gained altitude, and headed south.

Editor's note: We've re-dated this report from 10/14 to 10/13, the night the roost formed.
