My husband and I walked our two dogs earlier this evening (between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2014) in Mansfield Dam Park, near Austin, Texas, and saw numerous Monarch butterflies clustering on the large oak trees within the park. Within this half-hour period, we viewed a minimum of 400 butterflies coming to rest on three huge oak trees. Dozens of other Monarchs were already nestled within the tree branches. The black markings on this group of Monarchs were strikingly more distinctive than on most Monarchs we've seen in the past, and the butterflies appeared strong and purposeful. We will return to the park tomorrow and will bring a camera.
