Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/15/2014

Number: 1

Yay! One RT juvenile zoomed in and out in less than one minute just after 8 am--the hummer very briefly checked out the feeders without feeding and then sipped at one petunia before heading south at a fast clip. If I had blinked I would have missed it. There is a big weather front heading this way--gusty winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms (some tornado warnings have been issued. The front was about 70 miles west at the time of the sighting but moving slowly (It is now noon and it just got here.) I hope the RT can find good shelter.

Weather--mostly cloudy at dawn but cloudy by 9 am, winds gusty from SE up to 10-15 mph, low of 72 F high so far of 76 F (this is likely to be it since heavy rain has started), wind gusts are building--beginning to see a few whitecaps on the river indicating wind gusts at least 19 mph
