Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 10/17/2014

Number: 50

The peak migration has moved on from Dallas, but there are still many Monarchs in the garden - approximately 50 +/-. I found this unlucky one had been nabbed by one of its natural enemies - the Wheel Bug. A pretty big and nasty looking insect! It hung around on top of a Frostweed flower head and waited for the right moment to snatch his dinner. While I didn't like to see the butterfly become someone's dinner, I let nature take its course. I have rarely seen adults fall to predation - it's mainly the caterpillars that fall to wasps and Assasin bugs here in Dallas. Oh well.
