The NW winds were very strong, 25 - 35 mph, so as we thought the butterflies did not try and cross the Delaware Bay today. Many were sunning on pine trees, goldenrod or bayberry in groups of 10 - 60. There were also many singles hanging out in the trees or on grasses in the dunes. Some came to the gardens to nectar, always keeping in the sunnier areas. The team did not find one single big roost tonight, even with the 50 degree temp.'s, but again found many in smaller groups all along the dunes and in the State Park. The monarchs aren't using all the same roost areas this fall as other years, so we're still trying to find all the ones that flew in yesterday!!
