Hello again from Virginia's Eastern Shore! I observed 6 monarchs this afternoon nectaring on our butterfly bush in our front yard. Luckily I had cut it back at the right time for there to be lots of blooms to attract them! And this is the warmest and sunniest spot in the yard now! At this late date, and the cool weather, we are so glad to see them, but they need to fuel up and be on their way! I'm combining today's sighting with the ones I saw this past Saturday (4 of them) also nectaring on the butterfly bush. One was a bit faded, but the others seemed fresh and healthy. I have also released 7 from my late crop of eggs and caterpillars I reported awhile back, but I have had many casualties with the emerging ones. With such cool weather, the caterpillars were so slow in eating which didn't help the success rate, I'm afraid! Anyway, we'll keep watch and hope some of these make it! It is cool, windy and sunny now! We had temps in the high 40's this morning! Yikes!
