Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/21/2014

Number: 224

This morning the roost was slow to wake up as it was a cloudy sunrise but as soon as the sun came out the monarchs were streaming down the dunes. Our census for the morning run was 224 in 20 minutes. While standing on the dunes we counted approximately 25 per minute going by for hours. We also noticed that many were crossing the Delaware Bay. Some tried and came back while others just went for it. Maybe they know the rain and cold winds are arriving soon. Our team will be out looking for roosts tonight but with the fairly warm weather, not sure we'll find any large size clusters.
