Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/21/2014

Number: 200

After shooting a sunset at the beach I observed over 200 Monarchs roosting.

Billy McCord told me that it is a male Baccharis shrub. This particular one is about 4 to 5 foot tall. He further told me that it is their favorite nectar plant in the Carolina coastal region. I tend to think of them as salt water plants as they are usually found along salt water rivers and beaches in our area.
