On the patio reading around 0830 when I heard a humming sound, but did not see a bird. Some minutes later, I heard the sound again and when I looked up a sorta plump female ruby throated hummer was hovering 3-4 feet from my face. She was checking me out. She flew to a couple of different flowers in the yard before returning to re-assess me. She ate from the feeder a few seconds before going about her business. Never have I seen a hummer this late!
