Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/26/2014

Number: 1000

Observations of monarchs totaling over 1,000 in the large trees of the Schleicher County Courthouse lawn began to circulate on October 26th. Arriving at the site that afternoon, many were roosting in the large limbs overhanging the sidewalks and more were arriving on the breeze. By nightfall many of the pecan limbs were weighted by the flock. The monarchs stayed at this location until the morning of October 28th, when winds from the south subsided and winds from the north prevailed. Around 7:30am, the monarchs took flight and continued on their journey.
