Sunny, temperature between 49 - 50 degrees F. Between 10:30 and 11:00 AM. A female Monarch Butterfly was seen resting on lawn edged by woods. She was extending her proboscis, licking the surfaces of the grass. Approached by me, she skimmed the lawn surface. It has been cold on and off (about mid to low 40's - Low; mid 50's High). She appeared to have been in transit for a while. Her stature was medium size for a female.
