Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/30/2014

Number: 1

At first this appeared to be a bee, but closer observation was well rewarded. This female Ruby-throated Hummingbird hovered amidst the branches of a myrtle oak tree, and then landed on a prominent inner branch, where the afternoon sun filtering through the leaves turned its back to emerald flame.
