We have a small open field behind our home - it is edged by a thin strip of woods and then a cemetery on the other side of the woods. We enjoy sightings of many birds and a variety of wildlife including some deer and Red Fox, despite the fact that we live right in the middle of town. Yesterday was the first time we have ever seen a Bald Eagle anywhere near here. It was huge - it was standing on the ground in the field and it was eating something it had captured. It was only a short distance from our back door and the white head and neck feathers were clearly identifiable, and then the white tipped feathers on the tail feathers were very noticeable upon take off. One of our local hawks was not quite as delighted as we were with this beautiful visitor. We tried to get a photo, but the Bald Eagle was spooked when we came out of the house with the camera.
