Tulips PLANTED

Date: 10/25/2014

Number: 1

Our third grade students planted the tulip bulbs on a sunny, windy afternoon. Many had trouble planting to a depth of 7" due to roots from established plants. We organized a team of 6 students that rotated to plant the bulbs. One spread bone meal; another started the hole with a spade. Then one student was responsible for using the tulip bulb planter and/or spade to get the depth. Another student carefully placed the tulip bulb pointed side up; another one carefully filled the hole with dirt (and a few earthworms). Finally one student took care of the watering before moving to the next site four inches away. Finally we handed out antibacterial wipes to clean our hands. The students are excited to see the results of their work next spring.
