Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/15/2014

Number: 300

While spending day on the beach out at Montauk Beach, I observed monarchs flying overhead heading from water to the dunes. At first, I noticed just a three but as the morning and afternoon wore on they were coming in greater numbers. The day was warm, sunny and a breeze coming from the east. They all seemed to be heading for the dunes and flying west. Groups grew to about twelve .There had to be at least 300 that I witnessed flying. Beautiful sight. Mary Reilly
