We visited Fort Macon State Park in Atlantic Beach, NC, which is on the Eastern tip of Bogue Banks. As we stood looking East, we could see monarchs coming in over the water, having crossed the Beaufort Inlet coming from Shackleford Banks. We saw at least 12 monarchs pass, fighting a gusty SW head wind. Most weren't stopping for long to feed, the wild flowers along the dune line are beginning to fade. The following day, we also saw as many as 15 in 1 hour a few miles farther West along Bogue Banks.
