Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 11/07/2014

Number: 1

I had seen hardly any Monarchs all summer. On this date I discovered 15 large larva on my milkweed plants. I also saw a male and female Monarch flying around in my garden. The female was laying eggs on the milkweed leaves so I will be looking for more larva soon. I took the 15 larva into the house and put them into my butterfly enclosures. Within three days almost all of them had formed their chrysalis. I can hardly wait for the new butterflies to hatch so I can release them. Last year I released 31 Monarch butterflies. So far this year I had only hatched and released one. You can imagine how excited I was to find the 15 larva. Each year I increase the number of milkweed plants in my yard. Hopefully next year I will find larger numbers of larva and have to build even more butterfly enclosures!
