I am a 5th grade teacher at Northwestern Elementary School about 10 miles west of Wooster, Ohio. Today was a beautiful day with temperatures in the mid 50& up to 60 degrees. My science classes were outside all day doing a solar system activity. One of my students, yelled: There's a Monarch! It was flying low near the grassy field where we were doing our activity. The field is about 10 ft. behind our school. I sent a student over to see if the Monarch had been tagged, but just as she got near her, she flew up into a tree near our Eastern Box Turtle garden! We tagged and released 53 Monarchs through Monarch Watch this fall. Our last Monarch was released on Oct.13.My students and I were absolutely amazed to see such a late Monarch!!
