Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 11/16/2014

Number: 2

We live at the base of a mountain in Enderby BC and have been feeding hummingbirds every year for over 10 years. In the past I noted that some hummers showed up here after ours had left for the south, so I now keep putting hummer food out in case some arrive. This year we have had several but right now I have only one and he has been tanking up each day and hanging out in the lilac trees with the chickadees. I exchange feeders several times a day to keep them from freezing and to give him warm sugar water to drink. I feed 1c sugar to 4c water boiled and cooled. I was told I should up the amount of sugar to help him with the cold. It has been as low as -12 at night and he is still here in the morning to tank up. I take a picture of him or other ones each day so I can keep track of when they are here.
