This was the most amazing thing I had seen. We happened upon the Monarchs in the trees while heading to the beach. If you stood still enough you could get a Monarch to land on your hand. Our best guess is there were 300 + Monarchs in the trees. I didn't realize what I was seeing until a friend told me we spotted a roost.
